- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Every tool on this site runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your disk into your own browser's memory, processed there, and written back out. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run the tool — you will not see your document being sent anywhere. It also means the tools keep working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
- Is my camera feed sent anywhere?
- No. The video stream is rendered by the page and never leaves your device. You can verify it the same way as everything else here: open the Network tab while scanning.
- Why do my scans look grey and uneven?
- That is shadow and ambient light, and it is what the document filter is for — it pushes the background to white and lifts the text, which is what a real scanner does. Shooting with the light behind you rather than in front helps more than any filter.
- Does it work on a desktop?
- Yes, with any webcam, though a phone camera is usually much better for paper. On a phone the rear camera is selected automatically.
